Marcia E. Herman-Giddens, PA, MPH, DrPH

Scientific Advisor & Co-Founder

Marcia Herman-Giddens is an adjunct professor in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill and the Scientific Advisor for TIC-NC. She worked in child health and maltreatment for over 20 years as a medical provider, advocate, teacher, and researcher. Dr. Herman-Giddens received her Physician Associate degree from Duke University Medical Center in 1978 and her doctorate in public health in 1994.

Elizabeth Crabill

Board Member — Attorney

Elizabeth Crabill is an attorney originally from Baltimore who moved to North Carolina in 1995. She has over 25 years of broad legal experience covering corporate governance, complex litigation, contracts, and intellectual property. Liz became interested in helping people avoid tick-borne infections after contact with patients who experienced long and difficult paths to diagnosis and treatment.

Fran McCullough

Board Member — Author & Editor

Fran McCullough became interested in tick-borne diseases after moving to the Hudson Valley and meeting early patients with alarming stories. She worked as a book editor at Harper & Row, Dial Press, and Bantam Books, and served on the New York State Council on the Arts. She is the author of several books and writes a food column for the News of Orange.

Kimberly (Kim) A. Brownley, PhD

Board Member — Research & IRB

Kim Brownley is Associate Director of Policy & Initiatives in the UNC Office of Human Research Ethics and an adjunct professor of Psychiatry in the UNC School of Medicine. She is a Certified IRB Professional and an IRB Chair at UNC. Dr. Brownley began her research career over 35 years ago with graduate degrees in Exercise Sciences and Experimental Psychology from UNC, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Miami.

McGregor Bell

Board Member — Finance

McGregor Bell lives in Durham and grew up in Raleigh. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and works as an accountant for a local university. McGregor became increasingly concerned about tick-borne disease as he noticed growing tick populations and more people being affected.
